I was recently contacted by someone representing “ACT: The App Association,” which purports to represent the interests of small technology companies. A quick look at their recent policy positions reveals that their priorities are misplaced.

  • ACT supports the H-1B visa program, which disproportionately helps big tech and staffing companies, not small businesses. The H-1B program distorts the labor market, hurting American workers and students.

  • ACT claims to support privacy, but despite favoring regulation of crypto, they don’t mention any opposition to CBDCs, which would be a privacy-killer for everyone.

  • ACT advocates for “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Workforce Development,” which is at best unhelpful for small companies.

Overall, ACT seems to be advocating more for its big tech sponsors than for small technology companies.
